Career
Jude Kobina Mensah got interest in music at an early age. When he was in Primary 3 at Tessark International School, he would jot down lyrics to songs from musicians like Sarkodie. He also wrote lyrics from Joyce Blessing and Sinach. He also noted lyrics from Mama Esther, Nero X, and many more. Jude would learn these lyrics. Then, he would rap or sing them to his classmates. He especially performed to the girls of the class. Sometimes, he sang along while the real song was playing to audiences. He received some motivations. After receiving these motivations, his interest to venture into music sparked. Not only did it spark, he also started scripting his own lyrics using the format of these successful musicians. But he never had a chance to record any of the scripted songs.
He started performing songs of these aforementioned artists at a school ceremony. This event is popularly known as “Our day” in the Ghanaian community. Either he sings (raps) to his classmates or sing (rap) to the entire school. He had a lot of fun. He did it for fun not knowing he was born to do that (ie, born to be a musician).
Jude Kobina Mensah firstly chose Jude Thaddeus as his artiste name. Later, he changed it to Kobina Thaddeus. He called this act rebranding. He changed the name because “Jude Thaddeus” was already used or taken on Google. His fans couldn’t find him when searched. So now he’s known as Kobina Thaddeus. You can follow him on all social media platforms. He’s the only person with that name. You can easily search for and see him.
Kobina Thaddeus is a young upcoming musician specializing in Hip-Hop/Rap. He likes to test his versatility on other genres. His music is romantic, sweet, aggressive, joyous, warm etc. He’s very creative and also has a very good energy but shy and always calm/
People say he sounds like M.anifest but Thaddeus thinks he sounds like Eminem and Sarkodie combined . He did and released a cover of Rapper E.L’s single which is “Efa Woho Ben” in September 2020 his first cover song. He has currently released a new EP titled “Road To Fame“
Kobina Thaddeus went for a competition at Sekondi in the Western Region of Ghana. This event occurred when he was in JHS2 at E.P.A. It was a Gospel competition and it didn’t go well as too many abysmal things aroused. He went there with his friends. They were Joshua Ofori, Emmanuel Otabil (Paris Pappy), and Anthony Otabil. Anthony is the younger brother of Pappy. When he got there, those in charge could not find Thaddeus’s registration forms. This made him feel sad. His friends’ forms were there. Why only him? His excitement changed completely when this happened. He was lucky. The person in charge of the registration allowed him to partake without seeing his forms. Thaddeus went there to perform “Nyimpa Nua” by Nero X. The judges said it’s not a Gospel song. They stated that Nero X can never do Gospel after he told them the artist behind the song. This discouraged Thaddeus a lot because he never anticipated this so he rehearsed on only one song. He rehearsed other songs. However, that was the only song he took seriously. He included all the lyrics. He was then asked to perform another song. He was unprepared and already discouraged. He decided to do a Gospel song he was taught in primary at Tessark International School. He did his best with the singing. He received some freebies from the team and came back home. Before this, he planned to perform with his friends. Due to some misunderstandings, he was never called to rehearse with them. He decided to go solo. By then, Emmanuel was not talking to him. This led to Thaddeus not being called to partake in their rehearsals. Emmanuel wanted Thaddeus to be part of the competition. However, it was too late because it was at the last moment.
Kobina Thaddeus had his first award nomination on October 2021. It was Stars Awards. He didn’t win anything though. He has won 1 award to his name which is the best hip life record of the year with After School a single off his Road To Fame EP at the Upcoming Ghana Music Awards on 11th June, 2022.
Kobina Thaddeus first got to 1000 plays (streams) on Soundcloud on December 5th, 2020. He reached 1000 plays on Audiomack within the first quarter of 2020.

Artistry
Influences, style and rapping technique
Influences
Thaddeus has cited God to have influenced his career. He woke up and all of a sudden had a taste for music. Thus, he started rapping and then started chasing that dream. This was weeks after he completed JHS. Although he had already been writing songs, to him it was just for fun. He has also cited several Emcees (Musicians). They made him love music in general. These include Sarkodie, Castro, Bisa Kdei, Mama Esther, OJ, Nero X, Eminem, and others. He says Sarkodie made him love Hip-life. Along the line, he gained admiration for Eminem, who is the best and fastest rapper of the 21st century. He went further to choose Eminem together with Sarkodie as his Role Model. Before that he had already chosen Sarkodie as his Role Model. He always says he wants to be like both of them combined.
Style and Rapping Technique
Kobina Thaddeus started honing his rap style inspired by Sarkodie. However, he realized he can never be exactly like Sark. And also, as someone who values authenticity, he started exploring many different Hip-Hop styles. Thaddeus’s first track that gained him popularity during SHS was “Born Again.”, a Christian rap song. He created this track using the instrumentals of Sarkodie’s illuminati track produced by Magnom. He followed up with a storytelling rap song in which he excelled. He then explored rap about love, creating the song “Broken Love.” His friends really loved it, all in the year 2019. In the year 2020, his lyrical abilities improved significantly. This growth affected his flow, and he started flowing faster. Anytime he jots down a speed rap song and comes back to rehearse, he has to add more words. He did this because he happened to rap faster than before. Per this we can say THADDEUS has these rap styles built in him: Hardcore rap, Storytelling rap, and pop rap. He also incorporates Christian rap and many more styles to be discovered in the coming years. He has a fast flow and delivery is also on point, a great lyricist and also has deep lyrics. He’s known for bending words to rhyme. Also, he is a multi-syllabic rhymer who as well spits more rhymes & syllables in a bar. He’s known to write all his songs in a book (on paper). He takes a day, days or weeks to craft lyrics to a song. He normally does these when he’s in the mood for that song. Examples of sub-genres of Hip-Hop/Rap that Thaddeus’ music has been described as are : Storytelling rap, HardCore etc. It is believed that he is ready to have a taste of all genres since he says he’s versatile.
Thaddeus uses ego in his song for different rap style and subject matter. His bests who appeared in Beat 2 , Challenge , among others. In his personal songs, they are inspirational , God-fearing , aggressive, celebratory , deep etc.
